In this hands-on workshop you will learn to install a poured adobe floor. You will also learn to prepare your natural walls for earthen plasters and to mix and apply base coat earthen plaster. Earthen floors and plasters are the ideal way to bring thermal mass inside your well-insulated passive solar natural home.

This is the second in a 3-part series designed to introduce you to most of the skills you need to build your own natural home. This workshop will feature a tour of local natural homes including straw bale, adobe and cob. Classroom theory sessions focus on foundations and drainage and construction sequence and management.

Lead instructor Michael G. Smith has designed and built over 50 hybrid natural homes, using techniques from cob and adobe to timber framing and living roofs. He is the author or co-author of several books, including The Hand-Sculpted House and The Art of Natural Building. For more details and to register, see strawclaywood.com.
