We have identified and fixed a glitch in our subscription system that created problems for non-U.S. folks to subscribe. If you have had problems in the past, please try again and let us know if you continue to have problems. Thanks for the support!
The Last Straw has undergone a transition over the past year and we’re having a revival of our own.
We are now part of the Colorado Straw Bale Association (COSBA).
TLS has come a long way since the days of Out on Bale (un)Ltd where it was created back in 1993. It is with great honor that we continue the TLS tradition and have the opportunity to upgrade it to reflect the times in which we live.
While much has changed behind the scenes our mission remains the same, which “…is to inform and inspire people to build more consciously and with foresight toward future generations.”
With the digital age well upon us we are offering our subscriptions a little differently and hope to bring you even more interactivity with the publication. By becoming an annual subscriber you will receive both print and pdf versions of each issue. We want you to be able to access your documents from wherever you are, which means we are considering implementing an online reader for your convenience.
Now is the time to submit your articles for inclusion in the upcoming issue this winter. This is a great opportunity to gain exposure for your work and share your experiences across the planet.
By registering with us you can join the discussion in each article by exchanging comments and asking questions. Our role has always been about people interacting with each other, increasing access to information, and providing a conduit for the latest lessons in natural building to be spread.
Since you’re here, we’ll take this opportunity to point out many of the helpful sections of our new website. We have an updated Human Resource List (HRL) where you can advertise your goods and/or services, and the Classifieds where you’ll find a vast array of interesting things for sale or trade. If you have had a HRL listing in the past you can expect an email from us soon asking if you would like to update and renew.
Please support the sponsors and underwriters that will begin to appear on our pages. They provide valuable services in our community and deserve consideration when you are in need of help on your projects.
If you can afford it, please make a donation . We rely on supporters just like you to make up the difference in our operating budget. We have various sponsor levels that can be tax deductible. See more details here.
For professionals and materials vendors we are offering advertising in various forms, both in the printed publication and digital version, and here on our website. Thousands of unique visitors come here every month and thousands more read the paper version who are valuable to your business. They will support you if you let them know who you are.
If you have had a TLS subscription in the past that was not fulfilled we will honor that subscription with the digital version of the issues you did not received, but we ask that you notify us if you want to receive those issues by email. We do not have previous subscribers in our new system and ask that you let us know if and how you would like to receive your the past issues that were not delivered.
If you have bought past issues from us you can sign in using your username and you will be asked to reset your password. There is no need to create another account.
Finally, thank you for your incredible support through the years and we look forward to stacking bales with all of you in the near future.
The TLS Team
